A Different Kind of Author Event!

**Special Author Event**

Come listen to Emily Mah, S.M. Stirling, Lauren Teffeau, and Sarena Ulibarri talk about their new books in an entertaining, mock-critiquing format with one another.

About the Authors:

Emily Mah (for science fiction and fantasy) and E.M. Tippetts (for romance), has had short stories appear in Analog Science Fiction and Fact, The Black Gate, and anthologies like The Dragon and the Stars, Shanghai Steam, and The Change: Tales of Downfall and Rebirth. E.M. Tippetts novels have been on the Amazon Top 100 numerous times, and her novel, Someone Else’s Fairytale was semi-finalist for the Best Indie Book of the Year. emilymah.com, emtippetts.com

S.M. Stirling is a French born Canadian-American science fiction and fantasy author. Stirling is probably best known for his Draka series of alternate history novels and the more recent time travel/alternate history Nantucket series and Emberverse series. The third book in his alternate history of World War I spy thriller series, Shadows of Annihilation, is set to be released in March 2020. smstirling.com

Lauren Teffeau is a graduate of Taos Toolbox, a master class in writing science fiction and fantasy, a member of Critical Mass, an invitation-only critique group of professional-level speculative fiction writers based in New Mexico, an active member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, a PAN member of the Romance Writers of America, and a member of the Land of Enchantment Romance Authors. She writes to cope with her ordinary existence. When she was younger, she poked around in the back of wardrobes, tried to walk through mirrors, and always kept her eye out for secret passages, fairy rings, and messages from aliens. Implanted is her first novel. laurencteffeau.com

Sarena Ulibarri is a fiction writer who lives in New Mexico. She attended the Clarion Workshop at UCSD in 2014 and earned an MFA in Creative Writing at the University of Colorado-Boulder. Her fiction has appeared in various magazine and anthologies, including Lightspeed, Fantastic Stories of the Imagination, Weirdbook, and GigaNotoSaurus. She is Editor-in-Chief of World Weaver Press. sarenaulibarri.com

  • RIP Mike
by grrm on January 15, 2020 at 2:33 am

I was deeply saddened this week to read of the death of Mike Resnick, one of the true giants of contemporary science fiction.  Mike has been battling serious illness for some time, so the news did not come as a complete surprise… but it came too soon, too soon, and our field and our community

CoNZealand, this year’s World Science Fiction Convention, has announced that nominations are now open for the 2020 Hugo Awards.   To nominate, you need to be a member of either this year’s worldcon, or last year’s Dublin convention.  You can nominate either electronically, or with a paper ballot (though very few chose the latter method these

  • Toolbox Opens
by grrm on December 16, 2019 at 10:57 pm

Walter Jon Williams informs me that he is now taking applications for the 2020 version of the Taos Toolbox, his “graduate level” workshop for aspiring writers of science fiction and fantasy.   This year’s gathering will be June 7-20… not actually in Taos, confusingly, but nearby in Angel Fire, in the Land of Enchantment.  Walter Jon
