Jesse Wood: Artist / Printer

Artist Statement:
I am a painter and a lithographer, focusing my attention for the past 20 years towards landscape and still life canvases.  I began printmaking as a teenager and remained self-taught until attending art school as an adult.  Since then I have followed lithography with serious attention and learned a great deal about the techniques required for this laborious and collaborative process.  My painting has taken a backseat since I began studying at Tamarind Institute in Albuquerque, where the focus is solely on helping artists understand the language of printmaking.  Never the less, I have managed to produce some lithographs and prints which I may say are my own fledgling attempts at expression.  A large part of my print portfolio addresses issues that I have faced before and after becoming a father, specifically around my relationship to my young son and the prospect of being a single parent.

Artist Bio:
I am an artist living in NM for the last two decades where I have been painting and pursuing a career as a collaborative printmaker.  I attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and later Savannah College of Art and Design.  After returning to New Mexico, I was reintroduced to  printmaking at IAIA under the direction of Neal Ambrose-Smith.  I applied to Tamarind Institute in Albuquerque and was accepted with seven other students.  I am currently enrolled in the Printer Training Program there, graduating in May of 2019.

The Hugo Awards are the most famous prizes handed out annually at the World Science Fiction Convention… but they are by no means the only ones.   The Hugo ceremonies also include the presentation of two “Not A Hugo” awards, the Lodestar for YA novels and the best new writer award (the John W. It’s about achievement… One of my great pleasures since reclaiming the Hugo Losers Party (originated in 1976 at Big Mac, by Gardner Dozois and I) has been presenting the Alfie Awards, named after the late great Alfred Bester, who won the first Best Novel Hugo in 1953 for his novel THE DEMOLISHED MAN. With the

One of the highlights of my time in Dublin was my visit to Altair IV, courtesy of the kind folks at the Irish Film Institute.  The IFI has an impressive facility there in Temple Bar, and as part of the celebrations of worldcon, they invited me to present one of my favorite films, and speak
