Monthly Art Gallery Series @ Jean Cocteau Cinema | July Artist

Matt Suhre

Join us for our July Art Gallery Opening Reception. This month we are pleased to be featuring the artwork of Matt Suhre! The artist will be on hand to talk about their work and process, light snacks will be served and, as always, our bar will be open.

“Matthew Nash Suhre was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on December 31, 1976.  His interest in photography began early when he enrolled in a 10th-grade photo class.  He has been hooked ever since. After high school in Santa Fe, he moved south to Albuquerque and attended the University of New Mexico to study both photography and photojournalism.  He received his BFA with a minor in journalism from the University in 1999. After graduation, Suhre went on to manage the darkroom for the Santa Fe Photo Workshops for several summers.  Suhre’s clients include The State of New Mexico, The University of New Mexico, The Atlantic Publication Group, Sculptor Glenna Goodacre, Twin Palms Publishers, and the City of Santa Fe.

Suhre’s black and white photographs have been well received by the press and the public.  His urban street scenes of Paris, Rome, San Francisco, Albuquerque and Elsewhere cast light on the humor and beauty of humanity and the world in which we all live.  His color work incorporates the natural world into his earlier style, in which he photographs animals and plants as if they were players in an ever-unfolding drama.   New Mexico is the perfect place for this sort of behavior.

Suhre is currently living in Santa Fe and working on several interesting and incomplete projects.”

This exhibit will feature a collection of cyanotype photograms. The show will remain up for the month of July; we feature a different art show monthly, with an opening reception on the first Thursday of the month – with the exception of this month in observance of Independence Day!

The days are rushing by faster and faster, it seems.  We’re already into October and I haven’t yet mentioned all the highlights of our travels to London, Dublin, and Belfast in August. One of those highlights, beyond a doubt, was when I was presented with the An Post Irish Book Award in Dublin. The presentation

I am tickled to report that GAME OF THRONES has taken another award. This time it’s the MTV Golden Popcorn Award. Here’s the list of this year’s winners. The trophy just arrived, and it is certainly eye-catching.  (And heavy!) I usually take butter (real butter please, not “golden flavor”) on my popcorn, but gold
