Author Event: Barnard Voorhees

Join B.L. Voorhees for a talk on myth, art and his latest book, “The Hollow Fortress”, the first in a series of mythical stories that draw from his Special Forces background, as well as his insights into the nature of the human soul.

B.L.Voorhees has lived a uniquely interesting and colorful life. From being in the first graduating class at UC Irvine and a member of both its crew and national championship swim team, to becoming a lifeguard in nearby Laguna Beach, after which he became a member of the Air Force Para Rescue Team, perhaps the military’s most elite Special Forces unit. While earning an MFA in Professional Writing from USC, he also traveled the world as an aide to senior members of the Saudi Royal Family.

He has studied with many renowned mystics and thinkers, including Alan Watts, Carlos Castaneda, Robert Bly, and Andrew Weil, along with Arica Institute found Oscar Ichazo. He was also accepted into the Institute for the study of Human Knowledge founded by the renowned Sufi, Idries Shah.

Nicolas Herron, an American soldier falsely accused of desertion, accepts a job offer from a wealthy, though enigmatic elderly woman and finds himself in another world helping to prevent a catastrophic war. Although uncertain whether this other world is a dream or another dimension entirely, he begins to suspect his actions there will reflect back in the world from which he came. In the course of his adventures, he finds love and confronts death, including his own. Gradually, he begins to discover the unimaginable truth of his own being.
