Author Event: Christine Mackenzie

Come join Christine Mackenzie as she reads from and
discusses her novel Hoofbeat Heartbeat: Fifteen Hands
Above the Ground. Interviewed by Danette Sills.
Mackenzie will take questions followed by a signing in our lobby.

This saga talks about the love of horses and how
differently, they are treated around the world. It spans
continents and generations but simply begins with a
young woman, Joanna Rusnick, who courageously
ventured into a macho sport at a time when women
were banned: the fast-paced game of polo. By first
disguising herself, ‘Jo’ broke down a huge barrier for
those that followed in her footsteps.
Now living on a ranch and playing polo with her dad,
an elderly veterinarian who specializes in horse-care, Jo
lost her mom and tiny brother in a shocking accident. A
Shetland pony helped her to heal and move on… She
really never lost her love of horses, unique equine
athletes with a soaring spirit, and…even more
important, she never lost the will to survive. Jo later
travels with her dad to distant lands in search of the
very best polo has to offer. Eventually, she starts rising higher among the ranks of this International macho-
world, solely dedicated to the advancement of this hardcore, dangerous 2000-year-old game.

When two of the best players in the world, a gorgeous
Colombian named Julio Aroya and a down-to-earth
Texas Cowboy, called Steve Parker, vie for her
affection, things get rather out of hand and become
complicated, even violent! All three of them had great
tragedies happen in their lives but that is the only
the thing they have in common…

The days are rushing by faster and faster, it seems.  We’re already into October and I haven’t yet mentioned all the highlights of our travels to London, Dublin, and Belfast in August. One of those highlights, beyond a doubt, was when I was presented with the An Post Irish Book Award in Dublin. The presentation

I am tickled to report that GAME OF THRONES has taken another award. This time it’s the MTV Golden Popcorn Award. Here’s the list of this year’s winners. The trophy just arrived, and it is certainly eye-catching.  (And heavy!) I usually take butter (real butter please, not “golden flavor”) on my popcorn, but gold
