Author Event: Sj Miller

Join us at the Jean Cocteau Cinema as sj Miller explores the many ways that schools, and society as a whole, can compassionately supports whatever gender a person identifies with and make space for all!

**Miller recently gave a TEDMED talk!**

sj Miller is a trans, disciplinary award-winning teacher, writer, activist, and scholar whose emphasis is on social and gender identity justice in pre-K through university level teaching. sj is a frequent contributor to the Huffington post, CBS, GLSEN, and PBS and is the recipient of the 2019 AERA Distinguished Contributions to Gender Equity in Education Research Award.

In “about Gender Identity Justice in Schools and Communities”, sj discusses gender identity and why it matters. This text looks into the root causes and ways to change the conditions that have created gender identity injustice. It opens up spaces where evolving, indeterminate gender identities will be understood and recognized as asset-based, rich sources for learning. As educators take up the strategies mapped out in this text, they will learn how to foster school environments that aid all students in becoming agents for social change. This text is the first of its kind to address identity in teacher education with pathways to take up the work in communities and beyond.
