This unique film tells the story of the remarkable 3,000 year history of the Jewish Diaspora through their places of worship. Although millions of Jews were persecuted or killed because of their religion and many Jewish communities no longer exist, their synagogues should have also disappeared, but they did not. If synagogues could speak, they would tell the story that is embodied in Sacred Spaces – that it is in the Jewish sense of community, and the buildings where Jews assemble that transmit and connect the Jewish values of yesterday, today, and tomorrow. From Temple to Synagogues begins in Jerusalem at the intersection of Asia, Africa and Europe, the birthplace of the first monotheistic religion, Judaism. Starting with the most revered and evocative shrine of all, Mount Moriah (currently known as the Temple Mount), Lowenstein explores the historic destruction and reconstruction of the Western Wall and its importance to Jews throughout the World.
