SFFF Animation Shorts 4

* MNI WICONI: WATER IS LIFE – 2:44 mins:

A short film on the environment and how the fossil fuel industry is affecting climate change. It’s a black and white hand drawn film dedicated to Standing Rock Sioux Tribe Dakota Territory. The main theme is about the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL). The intention of the film is to create social awareness regarding contamination of natural resources.

* SHEDDING VELVET – 6:47 mins:

An abandoned child walks through her barren home to find a cure for her sickness.

* MINOR ACCIDENT OF WAR – 10 mins:

In 1945, at 20 years old, Field was the navigator in the 8th Air Force during the war. On his 3rd mission over Germany, his plane lost all four engines after being hit by flak and crash landed in the North Sea. Hanging on to one of the two rafts in the freezing cold water, a decision was made that to this day has affected Field.

* UNDERSEE – 7:47 mins:

Last winter, I was fortunate to be able to travel to Antarctica, and I was deeply moved by what I saw there. Human activity is governed by strong restrictions ratified by nations that have agreed not to claim any part of the continent for themselves; therefore the land and its inhabitants (seals, birds, whales and fish) are for the most part protected from direct human interference. Seals and penguins show no fear of humans; it is amazing to see just how interested baby seals are to get a closer look at people.

* BLUE PIG – 19:36 mins:

After a group of scientists’ technological innovation, a new born pig’s highest aspiration and sole value in life becomes being consumed and enjoyed by humans. In this story, a family takes a genetically altered pig home and prepares to slaughter it.

* NOTHING TO SAY – 9:35 mins:

Nothing to Say in an allegory in which a recent arrival at the zoo, a turtle, challenges the zookeeper and other animals by not speaking on command to receive his food. By revealing his story to the others, the turtle exposes themes of exile and being a refugee in a land that provides for the body at the cost of the soul. Various animation styles used in the film help to uncover the emotional quality of the turtle’s experience.

* POLLEN – SISTER JAMES – 2:58 mins:

Music video from the band Sister James, for their single “Pollen”.

* UMBILICAL – mins:

    Odyssey, held each summer in the ghastly haunted mountains of New Hampshire, is an intensive six-week workshop for aspiring writers of science fiction, fantasy, and horror.   I taught there once, years back, and witnessed first hand what an amazing experience it was… and in more recent years, I have sponsored an annual scholarship for a

  • Real Life Prehistoric Dragons
    by grrm on February 25, 2020 at 9:31 pm

    This is really too cool. A new genus of pteradon has been discovered, and named after the dragons of House Targaryen. https://www.iflscience.com/plants-and-animals/soaring-dragonlike-dinosaur-named-for-game-of-thrones-house-targaryen/ I am delighted, needless to say.   Especially by the kind words of the discoverer, paleontologist Rodrigo Pegas, who is solidly on my side about dragons having two legs, not four, and pfui on
